Gleener The Ultimate Fuzz Remover™ & Gleener On the Go™

How do I use the Gleener Ultimate Fuzz Remover and Gleener On the Go?

After attaching the appropriate edge, you are ready to Gleen. Lay your garment down on a clean, hard surface — an ironing board is ideal. With one hand, hold the garment taut; with the other, move the Fuzz Remover in a downward motion. Always be sure to Gleen in the same direction as the weave of the fabric. Depending on the size of the pills and the composition of the fiber, you may need to apply more pressure. Garments made with acrylic are tougher to Gleen as their material composition is stronger than natural fibres. Still in doubt? Click here to see Gleener in action.

Why are there 3 different edges?

There are 3 different edges because different fibers pill differently: some produce large, bulky pills—most commonly found on wool and acrylic sweaters and coats—while other fibers such as cottons, lycra and elastane create ultra fine pills. Three different edges were developed to treat virtually any type of pilling on any type of garment while keeping every fabric safe.

What can I Gleen?

Your Fuzz Remover can be used to renew and refresh everything from your favourite sweater to the cushion on your child’s car seat – anywhere that pills proliferate. Some suggestions:

Wardrobe:
  • Sweaters
  • Coats
  • Pants
  • Skirts
  • Suits
  • T-shirts
  • Jackets
  • Socks
  • Scarves
  • Hats
  • Mitts & Gloves
Around the Home/Upholstery:
  • Sheets
  • Blankets
  • Cushions
  • Chairs
  • Slipcovers
  • Sofas
  • Car seats

Can I use it on natural and synthetic fibers?

Gleener Fuzz Removers work great on both natural and synthetic fibers. Here are some of our favorite fibers to Gleen:

Naturals:
  • Wool
  • Merino wool
  • Lambswool
  • Angora
  • Cashmere
  • Pashmina
  • Silk
  • Cotton
Synthetic:
  • Acrylic
  • Rayon/Viscose
  • Polyester
  • Nylon
  • Spandex™, Lycra®,
    and Elastane™
  • Microfiber
  • Polyamide

How do I know which edge is which?

Each edge is individually marked on the bottom: 1, 2 or 3.

How do I know which edge to use?

  • Edge 1 is ideally used for large, bulky pills or fuzz balls most commonly found on wool and acrylic sweaters and heavier garments such as coats.
  • Edge 2 is ideally used for medium sized fuzz balls such as those found on finer wools like cashmere and merino. It is also highly effective on acrylics, polyesters and blends as well as fleece.
  • Edge 3 is ideally used on tiny, fine pills such as cotton and synthetic blends usually found on t-shirts, scarves and shirt collars.

The instructions suggested that I use Edge 3 for my garment, but Edge 2 works better. Is that okay?

Of course! The information provided here and in the product instruction manual is just a guide as every fabric is unique. Start with the recommended edge but experiment as needed to find which one works best. Just be cautious when Gleening fine fabrics — make sure to test the edge first. A safe bet is to begin by using the most gentle edge (Edge 3), applying light pressure. If that isn’t giving you the desired results, move to the next edge. For best results, Gleen on an ironing board.

Can I Gleen my upholstery?

Yes, just be sure to test the appropriate edge in an area out of view. Also, exercise caution if there are any intentional weaves or embroideries.

How do I test an edge?

Before Gleening, it's a good idea to test your selected edge in a non-obvious place, such as on the inside seam of a garment.

How often can I Gleen a garment?

Like so many things in life... moderation! Exercise good judgment, making sure to Gleen only when needed.

Is there anything that shouldn't be Gleened?

Yes, although Gleener Fuzz Removers are highly effective for most garments and upholsteries, it is NOT recommended for use on flannel as it wears out the edge surfaces too quickly. Athletic gear, burnout fabrics and ultra-thin or shear t-shirts are also not recommended for Gleener use. Similarly, the Gleener Fuzz Remover should not be used on fabrics that contain embroidery, deliberate textures or very loose weaves.

When I use Edge 3, the pills stay on the garment rather than the edge. How can I remove the excess pills?

Using Edge 3, most pills and fuzz tend to remain on the Gleened surface. Just flip Gleener around and pick-up the excess fuzz with the built-in lint brush.

How long will the edges last?

The longevity of the edges really depends on how often you Gleen. With moderate use, the edges will last one to two years.

How do I clean the lint brush?

To clean the built-in lint brush, simply rub your palm or thumb in the direction of the velvet brush’s grain. The accumulated fuzz will roll right off.

For a deep clean, use your vacuum with the detail attachment OR use Edge 1 from your Fuzz Remover and rub it in the direction of the velvet brush's grain.

FURniture Brush™

How do I use the FURniture Brush?

The FURniture Brush attaches to your Gleener Ultimate Fuzz Remover to remove surface & embedded pet hair from furniture, car interiors and other upholstered surfaces. Click here for instructions.

Do I need the Gleener Ultimate Fuzz Remover to use this product?

Yes, the FURniture Brush is an accessory that attaches to The Ultimate Fuzz Remover. Therefore, an Ultimate Fuzz Remover is required.

Is the FURniture Brush supposed to have such a snug fit?

Yes. The FURniture Brush attaches snuggly to The Ultimate Fuzz Remover to prevent it from shifting during use. Click here for hassle-free instructions on how to attach the FURniture Brush to The Ultimate Fuzz Remover, or here for a video how-to. If you're still having a tough time, get in touch with us and we'll be happy to come up with a solution.

Where can I use the FURniture Brush?

The FURniture Brush works on most upholstered surfaces and with pet hair of all different types and textures. Here are some of our favorite items to de-fur:

Around the Home:
  • Sofas
  • Cushions
  • Slipcovers
  • Dining chairs
  • Armchairs
  • Blankets & comforters
  • Rugs & carpets
  • Car interiors
Pet-related:
  • Pet beds
  • Scratching posts
  • Pet blankets

The FURniture Brush is also a pet favorite! Use it to groom and massage your cat or dog. It also comes in handy for non-pet uses like picking up crafting, sewing and knitting scraps.

Will it work on velour or velvet upholstery?

The FURniture Brush works on most upholstered surfaces. The material and construction of some upholstery can be more difficult to clean than others. In such cases, lightly wet the brush or mist the surface with water and brush firmly to lift stubborn pet hair. Be sure to only use this method on surfaces that can safely handle moisture.

How do I clean the FURniture Brush?

While de-furring, simply remove accumulated pet hair from the bristles using your fingers. When you're finished the job, remove the FURniture Brush from The Ultimate Fuzz Remover and pop it in the dishwasher - it's top-rack safe.

Can I use upholstery cleaning products in conjunction with this brush to spot clean?

No - when it comes to pet safety and wellbeing, better safe than sorry! Because the FURniture Brush doubles as a pet grooming accessory, we don't recommend using this product in conjunction with upholstery shampoos or spot cleaning solutions.

How do I store the FURniture Brush?

Store your clean, dry FURniture Brush in the travel pouch provided with your Gleener Ultimate Fuzz Remover. This way, it will always be handy when you need it. To preserve the integrity of the Ultimate Fuzz Remover's lint brush, we recommend removing the FURniture Brush from the handle prior to storage.

Dryer Dots™

How do Dryer Dots work?

Gleener Dryer Dots tumble as the dryer drum spins, naturally softening and separating clothes. This same tumbling motion helps to increase the air circulation in your dryer for faster drying times, saving you time, money and energy.

Are they noisy?

Made of soft, squishy wool, our Dryer Dots bounce quietly through the cycle. They aren’t, however, noiseless; you may hear them gently tumbling in the dryer if they escape from the laundry tumble.

Who can use Dryer Dots?

In a word: everyone. Dryer Dots are gentle on you, your clothes, and the planet. Made of 100% pure wool, they won't leave behind any icky chemical residues, and are therefore safe for people with sensitive skin, asthma and chemical sensitivities. They’re even gentle enough to use with baby clothes and cloth diapers. ‘nuff said.

Do Dryer Dots eliminate static like dryer sheets do?

Dryer Dots use natural wool to neutralize static. However, depending on the fabrics placed in your dryer (ahem, synthetics), they may not eliminate it entirely. For best anti-static performance, we recommend the following:

  • Drying only natural fibers or fabrics with a high natural fiber content in your dryer. Opt to hang dry synthetics.
  • Using your dryer’s “automatic” setting to automatically stop once the load is dry. This will prevent your clothes from becoming parched—a key contributor to static.

While on the topic of dryer sheets… Conventional dryer sheets and liquid fabric softeners embed your laundry with chemicals to ward off static. While effective, some of these chemicals are known to be harmful to one’s health and the environment. That’s why we’ve opted to go the all-natural 100% wool route. Can you blame us?

I have a wool allergy; can I still use Dryer Dots?

Yes, most wool allergy sufferers can safely use Dryer Dots.

Can I wash my Dryer Dots if they get dirty?

Yup – for best results, we recommend spot cleaning them with water and a mild detergent. If they require a thorough clean, you can also wash them in a delicates bag in your normal laundry cycle. Air-drying in a well-ventilated area is your best bet, as your Dryer Dots will need a long cycle to dry completely in the dryer.

I shut my Dryer Dots in the dryer and now they smell musty, what should I do?

Toss them in the washing machine with your regular wash. See “Can I wash my Dryer Dots if they get dirty?” (above) for our washing and drying recommendations. When storing Dots in the dryer, always leave the door ajar so that the natural fibers can breathe. You can also consider storing them in a laundry basket or in their reusable packaging, unzipped.

How many Dryer Dots should I use?

For small loads, 3 Dryer Dots is recommended. For medium to large loads, 6 Dryer Dots are needed. For extra large loads, use 9; the more laundry, the more Dots!

Can I use 3 Dryer Dots in a heavy or large load of laundry?

Certainly, however using only 3 Dryer Dots for a heavy or large load of laundry will not help with dryer time or reduced energy consumption.

I’m done my laundry – now what?

Once your laundry is dry, Dryer Dots can stay in the dryer with the door slightly ajar. You can also store them in a clean laundry basket or in their reusable packaging, unzipped. Dryer Dots are made of 100% pure New Zealand wool, and wool requires air to breathe. Keeping the dryer door open or the plastic bag unzipped will help your Dryer Dots stay fresh.

How long will my Dryer Dots last?

Dryer Dots will last at least 1000 loads. It’s time to replace them when they no longer hold their round shape or have shrunken significantly in size.

My Dryer Dots are Pilling – is that okay?

Yep – pilling is normal and it will not affect the performance of your Dryer Dots. Is the piling driving you crazy? We have a tool for that :)

What do I do with an old Dryer Dot?

Wool is biodegradable and can be composted. The packaging that our Dryer Dots comes in can be recycled.

Fabric Care

What is pilling?

Apart from being annoying, pilling is a very common result of a fabric showing signs of wear by forming small pills (also known as fuzz or balls) on its surface. Just like human hair, natural and synthetic fibers come in all lengths and strengths, resulting in breakage over time. The fibers break with regular wear and tear; these ‘broken’ fibers create small pills on the fabric’s surface through friction and washing, and are most commonly found in high-friction areas such as the under-arms, sleeves, bust area, and inner thighs.

What causes pilling?

Pilling occurs when tiny fibers found in woven and knitted fabrics break away from their yarn. This breakage is the result of normal wear and tear and with repeated friction and abrasion, tiny and unsightly fuzz balls begin to accumulate on the fabric surface. These annoying little cling-ons anchor themselves with tiny hooks much like a burr does.

Does pilling mean the fabric is of poor quality?

Absolutely not! Fuzz balls know few limits — from ultra-luxurious cashmere to simple synthetics, pills are prolific.

Which fabrics and fibers pill?

Most fabrics exhibit some degree of pilling. All-natural fibers such as cotton and most wool tend to pill less as their construction is weaker than their synthetic counterparts. Synthetics such as acrylic, polyester, rayon, nylon and elastane are inherently stronger and as a result, their anchors are tougher, creating cling-on pills that don’t want to let go! Also, the fabric construction plays a role — a tighter, more compact construction — like denim — is generally pill-free, while knits have a much looser construction, thus inviting even more pills to the party.

How can I avoid pilling?

Good question! Please refer to this blog post for some valuable tips. We know how important your wardrobe is, and we want to help you get the most out of it and look your best!
